  1. If you need help with activities, you could try some of the typical "shower" games--like give everyone a certain amount of "tokens" of some sort, and each time they are heard saying a "no-no" word --ones that you choose with a theme perhaps around turning 40--the person has to give a token away to the person who heard them say it.  At the end of a certain amount of time (you decide--an hour or two), whoever has the most tokens gets a prize.   You could do an adult pinata with joke Vitamin/old age gag-type candies in it.  You could have theme songs from 40 years ago, or songs she listened to as a teen ager--like a sock-hop or 80's theme party--esp. if she likes to dance.  THe party could be a costume party.

  2. Teach you to volunteer! LOL

Seriously, keep it simple. Have all the attendees (except the guest) bring a plate of something. Usually that will bring together the greatest variety of food for the minimal cost.

If you're the sole provider (cost, buyer and preparer) then go to any fast food restaurant that serves BBQ (Grady's or Bill Miller's ) or chicken (Kentucky Fried, Bush's) or McDonalds and just order enough for X number of people. Don't forget a large container with unsweetened tea. Have sugar available for those who can not drink tea without sugar. McDonalds can provide you with FREE 5 gallons of gatorade or orange drink when you buy such an order from them.

  3. Hello,

40 th birthday party, at community center,, I would have a pot luck and pass around list for everyone to sign up. Bingo is family style game and you can have everyone bring a 2 or 3 dollar gift for prizes.. and disposal cameras, keep it simple and enjoy...

  4. Well, since there will be no fun allowed, maybe a christian themed party with worship music, you think?  She sounds like my family members.

  5. Umm.... The first thing you want to do is not rub the fact that she is 40 in her face. Have music and her favourite kind of food there have her kids there too. (Obvious)
