well...I had an appointment today and doctor said that I'm 1 cm dilated and 50% effaced and still at -3.

I have been like that for at least a week!! I know its hard to tell because its crazy how fast things can happen, but I was just curious to know if it is likely that I will have to be induced?

also...is there any good tips you ladies can give me to help speed things up?? s*x and walking doesnt seem to be doing much! haha

  1. That is up to you unless there is a serious medical need to induce you such as high blood pressure or something.  It is a decision YOU make along with input from your doctor. Remember that induction means you are twice as likely to need a C-section.

And you're right: things can happen fast. Since the average gestation is 41 weeks 2 days, relax and enjoy these last few days of pregnancy. Birth blessings to you.

  2. You can walk around in that state for weeks, but I'd say it's unlikely that you'll have to be induced.  You can 'safely' go 42 weeks even though you may not want to.  Hang in there.  It's possible your due date is a little off or some babies just take a little longer to 'cook'.  My feeling is that labor is much easier and faster when it comes on naturally. There is something exciting too, in my opinion, about the surprise of when the contractions start.  I also understand pitocin induced labor can be more difficult and painful, so I would encourage my OB to induce and even if he suggests it, you may want to ask if there is any medical reason not to wait the full 42 weeks.  Hang in there!!

s*x and walking, spicy foods (or whatever gives you loose poo....for me it's Tom Kha coconut soup or other spicy foods or cream sauce).  Other than that, just get a lot of sleep so you'll be good and rested once your marathon begins!!  :)

  3. I have herd that spicy food helps and acupuncture can trigger it if your really wanting it to go fast and jump start labor.
