My 41/2 month old has been drooling the past few days and has had a low grade fever of 100.8 today. I assume he is teething. HOWEVER, this afternoon he was crying, stiffly arching his back and head as well as looking as far up as he could,(we could still see his eyes, so they were not rolled way back). This went on for a couple of minutes. He eventually started to look down at us again. His appetite has been slightly down today and tonight when i was feeding he dry heaved a few times then spit up/ threw up his milk. I am unsure if he was throwing up or just burping and happen to spit up some milk. Any ideas as to what it could be. Thank you for your help.

  1. Drooling is no big deal in any child, your baby might be teething.  However the crying, arching his back and  head with eyes rolled kind of back sounds a little bit like a seizure.  His temperature is up but not enough to have a seizure.  It is very hard to tell with a baby.  You cannot take a chance with a little one like that.  Their bodies are so small, it doesn't take much.  I would call the doctor as soon as you can, tell the doctor what happened and take it from there.  It is always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to a tiny baby.  Good luck and hope everything turns out okay.

  2. some of the symptoms are prob. just teething, but just to be safe i would take him to doctor to get a proffesional opinion, its always ok to worry when you are a mother, especially if you know that something is not right. just dont go overboard (like if he gets a little cut, dont take him to the hospital)

  3. go to youre doctors in the morning if youre worried right now go to the hospital better off seeking professional help.better to be safe than sorry.

  4. Any mother older than 14 would know to take baby to ER when that sort of thing happens.

Get off your duff and GO !!!!!

  5. I would seek advice from your doctor.  All the best =)

  6. It is probably teething like you said, but the arching of the back really isn't a teething symptom.  It may be that he has GERD, which is basically acid reflux in babies, arching of the back is common.  I would call the DR., tell them what is happening and get their opinion.

  7. go to the doctor or emergency room immediatley

  8. He sounds like he not feeling well...  I would say that the drooling could definitely be attributed to the possible teething.

But, fever is not really associated with teething.

The back arching is common for babies when they have bad gas in their bellies, when they need to flatulate or burp.  It is a sign of discomfort in the middle region.

The eyes looking far up is the most concerning symptom.  He could have simply been looking up, but this is also a possible seizure.

I would take him to his pediatrician tomorrow, and if I were you, I'd call her/him tonight just to see what he/she thinks.  That way, you can rest easy.

  9. I would take him to the hospital or make him an appoitment with his doctor just to be sure but i could just be teething, the drooling is normal if thats what it is..he may just have been playing around when he leaned back my daughter used to throw herself backwards as a game..im not to sure, the temp doesnt seem right for a baby but im no professional, i hope your little one gets better, take him to the doc to be sure :)

  10. sounds like tetenus
