Alright, i'm exactly 41 weeks today. I have a doctors apt. tuesday. He said at this apt. if I still haven't delivered we would "talk" about getting me induced, does that mean I will have to wait even longer to have this baby? Or can I ask him to send me off to the hospital that day, my apt. is at 9am, so maybe he could call the hospital and get me in that afternoon for induction?

My doctors a real *** and I don't know how im going to tell/ask him to let me be induced that day instead of waiting longer, how did you ask your doctor?

Also- what are some risks of being overdue?

I don't know if im dilated any he refuses to check me, and I haven't been having any problems. I'm actually pretty content, just tired of being pregnant.....

Any Ideas?

  1. You know I am really not sure. I think each ob is different. My ob started to check me every week starting at 37 weeks. She set my induction on my 38th week apt. I am now 3 days past due and will be induced on Wednesday the 3rd exactly at 41 weeks. If I where you I would ask the ob when he plans on inducing me! If that date will not work I would ask if it could be done that day or the day after. I know I asked my doctor if she could induce me on labor day and she agreed but the hospital refused due to low staff on the holidays. So just ask what can he do but say no.

  2. I'd suggest being induced, but if you're still comfortable, there are no real risks.  the baby will present itself when the time is right.  God's creation knows what to do.

And if your doctor is a real ***, why are you still using that doctor???  You likely have friends or family with better doctors, right?  Get a new doctor.

  3. I hope this is not your first and the doctors are being *****.  My doctor checked me every time I went the last month, I think.  I would try to get it going my self.  Walk, alot if you are up to it.  Have s*x, your hubby will probably love that you might not.  Nipple stimulation again your hubby will love that.  Those three things I have heard help get labor moving.  I have always heard it is better to get started naturally than it is do induce.  Personally I went naturally with the first one this time I wont let them induce me unless there is some medical reason.  The only reason for that is where I live I don't have birthing options, when I go to the hospital I get in a bed and don't get out until the baby is born.  There is no walking around etc.  To me it is odd the doctor let you go over because normally they are ready to induce so they are not called in when it is inconvenient for them.  If you still haven't gone into labor by your next appointment and you are ready to have this baby just tell him.  In the end it is his decision but you can at least speak your mind.  There is some medical issues will going over like the size of the baby and the aging of the placenta.  More than likely, at least I would think, on Tuesday he would send you to the hospital or would have you go in a day or so later.  Good luck and don't let the doctors ruin this wonderful experience for you.

  4. I went 42.5 weeks.  Even 42 weeks is considered normal.  I have read that in France, it is commonly said that a pregnancy last 42 weeks not 40 like is said in the US, Canada, UK and other countries.

I would hold off on an induction personally until you hit 42 weeks.  Inductions are not fun and make you more likely to have a C-section.  (I had a 29 hour labor with an induction due to complications.  It was bad.  No one had ever told me that epidurals and spinal blocks only work some of the time.  So, I ended up with an extremely painful induced labor and no pain relief.)

HOWEVER, I would ask for an ultrasound to check the placenta degradation, amniotic fluid levels, etc.  If any of these appear worrisome, I would ask to be induced, and your doctor will agree (at least, he definitely should if the baby is at possible risk and would safer "out than in".)

  5. it is very dangerous to go too far overdue..the placenta stops working, and you could have a stillbirth, please beg to be induced..i have a friend whos doctor let her go 2 weeks over and her baby was born with no heartbeat...perfectly healthy..no reason for that,if she was born a week earlier she would still be with them today.(autopsy showed no problems with the baby)

  6. There aren't anymore risks for being overdue as there are being induced. I am sure dr is keeping track of amniotic fluid levels, baby's size, no protein in your urine etc... so it's not as if you or the baby is in danger.

I was always 41-42 weeks when each of our 4 children were born. My midwife started thinking it was just normal for me to go over. Our babies were bigger, but very healthy and didn't have signs of being significantly overdue (longer fingernails, less vernix caseosa, less amniotic fluid present).

I would recommend asking for your membranes to be stripped and gel applied to cervix before allowing induction. Then walk walk walk. Have s*x, nipple stimulation, etc...

Induction should only be done if you go past 42 weeks (highly unlikely), if you are throwing protein, amniotic fluid level drops or baby is in danger. Sometimes inductions don't work, you end up with a c-section. Generally it's a much harder labor and you need pain meds (which have their own risks). It's not something to just allow - there needs to be a really good reason for it. Every unnecessary medical intervention can lead to another.

YES - it's true placenta can stop working, but this is very rare. If dr checks for effacement or dilation, it's still not a guarantee of when labor will begin on it's own. If you do have to be induced, I would not have them start pitocin immediately. I would start with them stripping membranes (non-invasive), GIVING YOU A COUPLE OF DAYS, then going in if that doesn't work and ask him to break your water only without starting pitocin for 12-18 hours. You should go into natural labor on your own.

  7. at this point, the doctor should be checking you. if he hasnt yet, then hes not a very good doctor. i was induced with my second pregnancy. i went to the hospital for it 3 days after my due date. it only took me 4 hours of labor to give birth! they said it might take a day or two, but i guess it worked wonders on me lol. going too far past your due date is not a good idea, the baby good have a bowel movement and this would put toxins in there with him, also there is not really much more room for them to expand in there. if you want to be induced, let your doctor know. this is your body and your baby, you have the right to make demands. best of luck to you!

  8. with my daughter, i went to 41 weeks also. i had my regular appointment, and my doctor scheduled me to be induced the next day. there was no emergency, he just asked when i would like to be incuced, and he said he could send me straight over to labor and delivery, or schedule it for the morning. i picked the next morning so i could go home and get some rest before my big day, but i ended up going into labor on my own that night, LOL.

there are a few risks to going too overdue. the baby could have a bowel movement inside the womb, the placenta could start to tear away, and the placenta could become no longer useful to the baby.

before your appointment tuesday, don't be afraid to call and ask your doctor about when you'll be getting induced. he may not send you off that day, but if you really push for it, he might send you off the next day like my doctor did.

    congrats and good luck!

  9. Your doctor will probably call the hospital and find an opening for you and give you a list to choose from.  It could be Tuesday or they may be full on that day and have an opening Thursday.  He doesn't get to pick what day, he has to find a day for you.

Your doctor isn't checking you for dialation because there is no reason.  Just because your dialated 1cm or 2cm doesn't mean labor is near.  It's basically pointless to get checked because it just adds more to the guessing game.  Of course it's fun to say "I'm this much dialated and can go any minute" when really whether your dialated or not you can go anytime.  I know people think being checked is very important but it's not.  If checked too many times, youcan develop an infection.  But really being checked for dialating and effacement means absolutely  nothing.
