  1. The United States is in a place where cost and opportunity meet. The consequences, and costs, may be most severe if the country fails to act on climate change.

I looked into my own background to find an example of how I think we need to separate the financial cost from the necessity for action.

A few years ago a cat of mine was extremely sick.  He was a part of the family, had grown up with the kids.  His illness was not something we were prepared for, and while it was within our means to help him fight his sickness, it was costing us dearly. At some point the options became more theoretical, as the doctor could not assure results or even that he would survive.  The procedures would simply stabilize him and allow for some semblance of a quality of life.  I had to try to separate what was right to do for the cat as opposed to what we could reasonably afford.  It was difficult and I second guessed myself a lot.  But I was able to look back later and hold my head high, so to speak, because I felt we'd taken every reasonable measure to prolong his life while allowing him to enjoy the time he had left with us.  In short, I could have had him euthanized because of the cost.  But I felt that was a poor example to the children, and that this creature who had adopted us so long ago deserved better.

We have some hard choices to make in the months and years ahead.  We'll need to make sure we're fully aware of the cost of inaction before we proceed, and determine whether that's something we can live with.

Aside from trying to put a price tag on this (I think it's premature at this point to project a cost past the next 20 years), we also need a 2nd figure mentioned alongside the one you cite.  What kind of a technological renaissance will occur as we continue efforts to mitigate global climate change?  We will be turning a very significant page in human history here, no matter how we proceed.

  2. 45 trillion will have no effect upon solar cycles.  Money and freedom lost for nothing.

  3. This shows that it is not a task for individual companies. People of each nation need to be united on this issue, but propaganda machines are challenging the notion Global Warning is real. It is beyond discussion at this moment in my opinion. Even if it was not attributed to human activities, we should do something to help easy the situation as much as we can. Setting up infrastructures to sustain alternative sources must be huge. 45 trillion may not be outrageous number.

This estimate is based on 40 year span. If you equally devide among wealthy nations, say 10 nations, then each nation spends 4 trillion. Then devide it by 40 years. It is just 0.1 trillion dollers. It is a lot cheaper than 3 trillion that has been spent on the Iraq war in 5 years. We don't have a good picuture of how it was spent.

  4. Nobuo Tanaka and his International Energy Agency (or whatever it's called) are just another inbred bunch of alarmists and doom-sayers promoting, without evidence, the global warming agenda.

What he proposed is unattainable and rediculous, and would cost more than three times the annual budget of the USA.

Sheesh...hopefully some scientist or politician out there has a brain and can put a stop to this madness.

  5. $45 trillion to battle it on Earth.  How much for Mars, Jupiter and the other planets experiencing "global warming"?

When are we going to realize that this is a natural event that has happened many times before and will happen many time in the future?

I'm all for keeping the environment clean, but getting hysterical about a natural event is nuts.  If we all worked to keep our own little part of the planet clean, everything will be fine.

  6. Follow the money!   There are individuals and corporations poised to make billions of dollars off the MYTH of human caused Global Warming (Climate Change!)

Human beings do not cause Global Warming!   Duhhhhh!

If you have a normal cycle of Global Warming that has been taking place for a billion years - human beings are not responsible!

When the Cold War ended there was no particular FEAR or DANGER for the press to harp on - Global Warming became the new FEAR, the new DANGER to scare the public with!

Follow the money!  Fat Al Gore has made over 100 million dollars off his Ponzi Scheme of Carbon Footprints!  Companies like GE will make billions of dollars off this new FEAR!

This doesn't mean we should not conserve when possible, avoid needless pollution, recycle, seek cleaner energy sources - but we don't have to be crazy either!

FOLLOW THE MONEY!  The people who push this new FEAR stand to gain the most money!

  7. Unless we can find a good condition ,slightly used planet for sale any cheaper,I'd say pay the price!

  8. It at least posted the reality that nuclear power is going to be necessary to cut carbon emissions in half.  NOT a bunch of stupid, symbolic, awareness creating grassroots gestures like buying organic dog food, lowering water heater thermostats and  and converting food crops to fuel crops.

  9. It would be drastically cheaper to publish the ICCC results in peer review journals instead of keeping them locked up.

  10. That maybe the price world wide and China and India both have said that Industrializing their Countries is more important than preventing Global Warming even though China has surpassed the Untied States with regards to total emissions.

  11. That's just for starters.  The believers will always say "we're almost winning the are on carbon, we just need more money to finish the job!"

  12. it's unstoppable. we are powerless to stop it.

  13. and to whose pocket does this money flow?
