49ers’ Dashon Goldson guilty about fight with Cardinals’ Early Doucet – NFL News
San Francisco 49ers safety Dashon Goldson has admitted that his fight with Arizona Cardinals’ receiver Early Doucet was not a smart thing to do and said that such accidents will not be repeated in future.
During the week 11 encounter, which 49ers won 23-7, at the Candlestick Park, Goldson was ejected by the referee in the fourth quarter for engaging in a fight with Doucet, who hit him on the helmet when the former was lying on the
ground. In retaliation, Goldson responded by hitting Doucet and they both exchanged punches in what seemed to be a little brawl. The both were separated when other players from both teams interfered.
Initially, no word came out from Goldson about the incident. However, 49ers’ coach Jim Harbaugh said that he had spoken to the player who was remorseful about the incident.
49ers selected Dashon in the 2007 NFL Draft. This season, he has played eight games and managed three interceptions and 45 tackles.
On Monday, Goldson presented his version of the story and regretted his action. He was of the view that he was not supposed to be involved in a fight and, vowed that such incidents would not occur again. He further said that he
is ready to accept the punishment.
“What happened is he was running his route and we kind of ran into each other and we both fell. I'm looking around to see if the ref saw anything, and all I feel is two punches to the head," Goldson said about the incident. "I
just got up and retaliated.
“It wasn't a smart thing. It wasn't a smart decision on my behalf. I kind of lost it. That's just something I can't do as a vet and as a leader on this football team. I told my coaches that I'm willing to accept my punishment whatever
the case may be and it won't happen again."
Meanwhile, Early Doucet has also expressed his opinion about the scuffle and said that he had lost his cool. He also expected the league to fine both the players.
The latest developments, however, provide breathing space to both the players. A spokesperson of the National Football League, Greg Aiello, has said that the league is not planning to fine Goldson.
