49ers’ quarterback Alex Smith not up for contract negotiations at the moment – NFL News
San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback Alex Smith takes his game quite seriously and this was confirmed on Thursday when he spoke about his contract saying that he was not up for negotiations at the moment and wanted to focus only on
his game.
Smith is currently playing for the franchise under a one-year contract of five million dollars. He wants to wait for the season to end before entering into the contract negotiations and said that in the middle of the season, he
wants to focus just on his game.
“Not something I've talked about, or even really thought about," Smith said in an interview. "It's so early. I'm focused on playing football. That's not something I would want to think about in the middle of the season, to be honest
with you. It's so fun coming to work every day with the group of guys we have, and doing what we're doing. So, not thinking about that right now.”
Smith has been playing with 49ers since the year 2005. This season, he has started all the nine games recording 11 touchdowns and three interceptions, and has completed 151 of 236 passes for 1,709 yards. During the last week victory
against New York Giants, he scored a touchdown and rushed for 242 yards.
49ers have lost only one match this season and won eight games. They currently hold a winning streak of seven games and are the toppers of the National Football Conference West division. With an average of 310.4 yards (179.6 passing
yards and 130.9 rushing yards) per game, they are standing at the second place in the National Football League ranking table, falling just behind undefeated Green Bay Packers. They are going to take on Arizona Cardinals this weekend.
The quarterback who seems to be in no hurry to renew his contract is at ease because of the presence of general manager Trent Baalke and coach Jim Harbaugh and said that with the guys upstairs, things can be worked out later.
He also said that his relations with the team management, coaches and players are perfect and he feels comfortable playing for 49ers. He said of the management, “It's so fun coming to work every day with the group of guys we have,
and doing what we're doing.”
