Question:

4L60 Transmission not shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear in my Camaro

I read about how to fix the problem on here by changing the shift solenoids, but my question is this. If the shift "B" solenoid was bad would I get a service engine soon light?

A couple of months ago I was driving and the vehicle would constantly go into high rpm rev. I would turn it off and let it sit for 5 mins and then turn it on again only to get a few hundred more feet. I was informed that the filter was likely clogged and therefore restricting the flow of fluid to the transmission. When I dropped the pan there was no chunks of plastic or metal in the pan and it did not smell burnt, but there was a normal amount of silvery fluid buildup around the magnet. I changed the filter and fluid and now in the OD range it will shift from 1st to 2nd, but just goes into a high rpm rev where 3rd should be. Reverse works fine and the manual ranges L and 2 work fine.

Anybody have any ideas?

Shift solenoid?

  1. I would try replacing the solenoid before a rebuild! $50 for the solenoid versus over a grand for a rebuild...

I don't think that the 2-3 solenoid will pitch a fault code for the Check Engine Light.

Buy the solenoid directly from the dealership or directly from ACDelco, don't go cheap just to save money.

  2. see if it,s got a vacuum modulator on the side, it could be bad.

  3. i dont think so but you can try it

  4. Double check your fluid level. (idling)

  5. could be a shift soleniod

    or a valve sticking.
