My almost 5-month-old had her hep B shots at the hospital when she was born, and then at her 4 month appt, the pediatrician asked if she had it yet, and I forgot, so I said NO... So they gave her another hepB shot..... Is there any harm done??? I'm so worried! She is not running a fever or anything, but I'd like to know for the longrun... I would ask her pediatrician this, but they are closed for the weekend and I'd like to get an answer now.... Has this happened to anyone else? Serious answers only plz... No guesses!

  1. ACTUALLY THERE SHOULDN'T BE ANY PROBLEM ALL THE ONES AT THE HOSPITAL ITS ALL ROUNTINE... THERE DIFFERENT KINDS OF HEP B SHOTS OBVIOUSLY YHEY WOULDN'T GIVE YOU CHILD A 4MONTH ONE AT THE HOSPITAL ITS MENT FOR THEM TO GET IT AT 4MONTHS MY LIL GIRL GOT HERS LAST MONTH BUT WHAT YOU DO  DO IS GIVE YOU CHILD LIKE BABY TYNOLO CUZ SOMETIMES THEY GET FEVERS AFTER THERE SHOTS....

    10POINTS PLEASE...THANKS

  2. No, it happens a lot. It just makes the first one invalid. The only time there can be a problem is if they are received less than 30 days apart. My daughter had that happen at around 12 and 15 months old, and it didn't harm her in the least. And the baby does need the vaccine in the hospital if possible, there are soo many germs there, lol, even on the baby floor where strangers and sick people aren't allowed. It allows them to start producing the antibodies at a younger age.

She's fine, there really is no reason to worry, unless her leg swells up a lot(not just the injection site, that's normal too), she gets a high fever, or starts acting weird.

    Good luck!

  3. no harm done.  same thing happened to my son.  next time i'm refusing the one in the hospital.  no reason why a 1 day old needs a vaccine anyway.

  4. There shouldn't be any problem but you can call the pediatricians number and there may be a nurse that answers that can tell you for sure.

  5. A lot of babies get more than one HepB shot because when they get combination shots part of them is the HepB shot.  No harm done, my pediatrition said that even though my daughter had hers in the hospital she is getting another one with in 2 months shots since they are combo shots.  Don't worry, but say something to your pediatrition so the shot records are correct.  Good luck with baby!

  6. Hepatitis B shots are normally given either at the hospital or at your childs two week check up.  The next set should be given at their two month check up and last one should be given at their six month check up.  With the new combination vaccines alot of children are actually given four total shots, because the combinations are given at the childs 2, 4, and 6 month check ups, plus the one given at birth.  No harm done.
