Question:

4runner not starting after repair of idle valve sensor?

We just replaced the idle valve after it came up as the code. My check engine light has been on for weeks and if the car is stopped for a period of time and idling it will overheat. Anyways, after replacing the valve, we tried to restart the car and it started the first time, died when it was idling, and wouldn't start again. It will however turn over when we try to start it. It is a 1997 Toyota 4runner and has about 145,000 miles on it. Any help or input would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you in advance!

  1. May I ask: "Did you remove the ground cable to the battery before disconnecting any sensor harness and if you didn't, this needs to be the first step before retrying to start the engine." I would suggest leaving it disconnected for approximately ten to fifteen minutes. This will  clear any long term memory and will let the ecu identify the new sensor as being replaced. You can  also, try cleaning the throttle plate while the cable is disconnected as the computer will read the new position of the plate and will re-adjust the idle.Good luck !
