Hey guys,

Im writting this article on behalf of my bf.

He has a 4wd with 35inch tyres and one tyre has low tread mainly on the outside of the tyre, in the middle isnt "so"bad.

He only drives 5min to work and 5min back home and minimal weekend driving.

He always makes sure his tyres are pumped.

We are waiting to buy a new set of 35 inch with out tax return and his work bonus, seeing as it will cost close to $1000 for a new set, so its not like we can go and buy them tomorrow.

Will this be ok for a few months? Is there any big dangers in driving around with a couple of tyres with low tread [well mainly 1]?

Im just scared of a blow out or something........

Thanks for your help :)

  1. if it is the front tires he needs a front wheel alinement  but he should be ok of 5 mins to and from work

  2. If he is not driving on the freeway and does not exceed 50 MPH he will be okay.  A blowout on the freeway can not only endanger you and him, but 100's of other drivers and their familys.

You are right to be concerned.  Have him take the car to a tire dealership and have them assess the quality of the remaining tread.  They do not charge for this service.

I hope you get you tax refund quickly.

  3. Just don't use the 4WD and put the low tire on one of the non driving wheels and it'll be fine.

  4. First off.. he needs to get it aligned before he gets a new set of tires, otherwise they will wear out just like the old ones.

And until he can afford a new set.... ROTATE them. That way, it doesn't keep wearing out the already balding area.

  5. Plain and simple, dont drive on bad tires no matter what...
