Question:

5.1 Speaker System for only 50 bucks?

Why is there a 5.1 speaker system for 50 bucks? Apparently, they took 250 dollars off the original 300 dollars. There must be some kind of catch to it or Sony is just giving it away for a cheap price. All the reviews are good from the people claiming it has rich sound. Why do you think they are selling this for 50 bucks?

  1. 1. There is no amplifier/reciever.

    2. Flat pannel speakers do not work well.

    3. The image is not a photograph, but a computer generated image.  Not a good sign.

    4. The speakers have a low power rating of 70 watts.

Don't get them.  Spend some more money and get a good set of speakers from a more reputable manufacturer.  You never know what you'll get with Sony.

Klipsh, JBL, and Boston make great speakers, and you won't be stuck trying to guess at the quality like with Sony.

  2. did u find out first if its refurbished from factory. is it a discontinued sony item. or was it returned to the store as open and used item..if so,, have them plug it in and test it at the store before u even take it home. it happened to me before. and found out it was a store display item and the tweeters were blown out. open box policies are harder to return as is..BUT it may be a great buy dude.

  3. It could be a scam but alot of people like car dealers especially are lowering there prices because they need money. so there are selling there stuff for cheap so people will buy them.

  4. You added that it can't be a scam, because it's from Circuit City. Oh yes, it can be one. My wife wanted a printer that was in their ad. We and her dad went down, paid for one, but they didn't have one in the store. They said it'll be on the truck Monday. Then Wednesday. Then Friday... They ended up not having it at all, even though, 2 weeks pater, the same model printer was in their weekly ad, *again*. But, they still didn't have one for us. That finally resulted in a complaint to the BBB, a full refund, and they had to compensate us with a $100 gift card.

Now, it is possible to find deals that good. They're not common, but they sometimes come up. As others mentioned, ask if you are getting factory new stock, or if it was ever opened, on display or returned. Make sure that you have a full manufacturers warranty included.

Last year, I nailed a pair of Infinity floorstanding speakers, new, full warranty, right from the store, for about 66% off.

Also, while I'm not a fan of most electronics companies speakers (That is, the ones who make a full line of stereo and TV gear, like Sony and so on), for that price, they may be a great deal. The store could be clearing out their last stock, before internal inventory. I just nailed an HP printer for almost 2/3rds off, for that reason.
