5.1 speakers in a 6.1 channel reciever?

I have 5 speakers and a sub, but the reciever I want is a 6.1 .

If I connect the 5 speakers and the sub to a 6.1 channel reciever, will the speakers produce the same sound as if it were in a 5.1 channel reciever? Or will the fact that there is 6 channels in the reciever s***w up the sound and cause me to have to get a sixth speaker?

Thanks

  1. i have 5.1 connected to a 7.1... makes no difference.. the receiver has an option for you to choose how many speakers you have and the type of speakers (Large, Medium, Small).

when you get the receiver go to the setup menu and set up your configuration and layout and adjust the settings.

  2. You can make a settings change in most receivers to accommodate the absence of a rear center. Just like the old phantom center days of pro logic.

If you provide the model number we can tell you exactly how to do so.

  3. You will get great sound.  The receiver will have speaker setup section to tell it how many and what type of speakers you are driving.  Don't worry.

Consider adding that 6th speaker though.  I recently went to 7.1 with the addition of the surround back speakers and it is very nice.
