  1. ( 5 / 11) = (5/44) * y

    (5/11)/(5/44) = y

    Then multiply the 2 fractions. I think you can take it from there.

  2. (5/11) x (1/y) = 5/44   to go from dividing to multiply u flip the 2nd fraction

    5/ 11y = 5/44          because the numerators are the same the                                                        _________________denominators have to be equal as well

    11y = 44                      divide by 11

    y= 4

  3. (5/11) / (y/1) = (5/44)

    Dividing by a fraction is the same as multiplying by that fraction's reciprocal:

    (5/11) / (y/1) = (5/44)

    (5/11) * (1/y) = (5/44)

    When you multiply fractions, you multiply the numerator by the numerator, and the denominator by the denominator (top*top over bottom*bottom):

    (5/11) * (1/y) = (5/44)

    (5*1)/(11*y) = (5/44)

    (5/11y) = (5/44)

    We want to find the value of the variable y, by getting it all by itself on one side of the equation, and multiplied only by 1.

    You can add/subtract/multiply/divide by the same amount on both sides of an equals equation and still maintain the equality.

    (5/11y) = (5/44)

    (5/11y)/5 = (5/44)/5

    (1/11y) = (1/44)

    11y*(1/11y) = 11y*(1/44)

    1 = (11y/44)

    1 = (1/4)*y

    4*1 = 4*(1/4)*y

    4 = y

    Alternately, you could note that (y/1) is the same thing as saying y, so:

    (5/11) / (y/1) = (5/44)

    (5/11) / y = (5/44)

    y*(5/11) / y = y*(5/44)

    (5/11) = (5/44)*y

    (44/5)*(5/11) = (44/5)*(5/44)*y

    4 = y

  4. Remember:

    you are trying to get y on its own

    you have to do the same to both sides of an equation

    (5/11) / ( y/1) = (5/44) - multiply both sides by y/1

    (5/11) = (5y/44) - multiply both sides by 44

    20 = 5y - divide both sides by 5

    y = 4

    OR

    (5/11) ÷ ( y/1) = (5/44)

    (5/11) * (1/y) = (5/44)

    across the top 5*1 = 5

    --------------------------------------...

    across the bottom 11* y = 44

    y = 4
