  1. Your height has a small part to play, in that your inseam will determine how easy you can ride one.  Your weight isn't an issue unless you're 300lbs.  Your age will prevent you from getting a new sportbike, because unless you pay cash up front you will be financing and will be required to carry full coverage insurance.  For a 19-year old, that is often more than twice as much as the motorcycle payments are.

It's good that you're coordinated; you can walk and chew gum at the same time, eh?  physical prowess has nothing to do with riding a motorcycle.  It is a LEARNED SKILL, meaning that until you have time riding one you DO NOT know what's going on and are likely to crash if you are not careful.

    BUT...

For your price range, look for a used SV650, 2003 or newer (since that's the first year they put fuel injection in them). it shouldn't run you more than your budget, but you need to save some of that cash for the IMPORTANT things.

Like an MSF course and FULL GEAR.  Seriously.  None of this stupid "helmet with a T-shirt & shorts" B.S.  You need jacket, boots, gloves, pants and full-face helmet.  Add that to the MSF course to get you started right, and that's about $1000 on top of the bike cost.

So if you think you can handle it, give it a try.  Just remember that in real life there is no reset button, no saves, and a motorcyclist loses EVERY TIME, no matter what happens.

  2. possibly the best beginner bike out there is the ninja 500.

it's big enought that you won't outgrow it in the first month.

it's easy to control, quick enough. and it'll be very easy to complete the mandatory rider course to get your license. PLUS, go thru a MSF course. it'll really help. AND it will help with the cost of insurance. a 600 sportbike for a 19 yr old will be allot. but the safety course will help.

most of all. get what you like. if you keep a good head on your shoulders, you rally could get anything. but my recommendation is a ninja 500.

good luck and keep the rubber side down.

  3. first off you RIDE a bike

if you want to drive, get a car

sportsbike and long distance mostly do not go well together

insurance on a sportsbike will always be considderably more than for a comparable standard or touring bike

looks are in the eye of the beholder

power is something mostly young men need to prevent ED

it does not make you fast other than on a straightaway

invest in a riders course and get a nice 50hp standard bike

learn to ride, build up driving history for your insurance, pass some of your buddies on kilo-gixxers and then think about a sportbike

    greetz

    mum

  4. Since you are a beginner I would suggest a 600cc. Be sure to get a used one that is at least a couple years old; it will be much cheaper than a brand new bike, and if you dump it a few times, you won't feel nearly as bad about it. My first bike was the 1998 Suzuki Katana 600. Excellent bike, was 4 years-old when I got it and I bought it for $3000. The Honda CBR 600RR, Kawasaki Ninja Ninja ZX 6R 636RR, and Yamaha YZF-R R6 are  excellent choices and 2005-06 models can be had used in the $5-6K range.

  5. If you never rode before, start with a standard bike, not a sport. go with a 250cc which will be in your price area.
