I got a projection tv from a friend for FREE cuz he was getting a new one for his mom and we set it up but the color is too blue. We played around with the color settings and we cant get a nice crisp color out of it. He told us he has never cleaned the tv and i also read that there could be tonnes of dust in the tv or maybe the red gun is empty or dirty or something. Is there something I can do to fix this myself?

  1. Sometimes the "guns" can get out of alignment over time, and when the television is moved. Did you adjust the convergence? This in itself wouldn't completely explain the Blue issue, but you did mention the color not being "crisp".

That sounds like a convergence issue to me. The adjustment is available within the menu, but since I do not know what projection television you are referring to I can't help you locate it in the menu.

Many are simple to adjust. Some use a "+" symbol for each color and you adjust each until you have one "+" instead of three.

I also think there may be an issue with one or more of the guns in relation to the blue problem, since you were unable to correct via the color settings. If the blue is a "ghosting" of sorts then the convergence adjustment may very well correct that issue.

If you get a chance to up date your question, please include make and model (usually on the rear near the inputs - sometimes), or at least the make and screen diameter (most manufacturer's menus are the same through the product line).

    Good luck.

  2. In the tvs menu there should be a way to adjust the CONVERGENCE.  (some tvs have a button that fixes the color convergence instantly) if yours does just push it....

If it doesnt then you can manually adjust the convergence by allighning the projected color crosses... you want them to line up... try to completly over lap them- you should do this every tome you move the tv

  3. Old projection TVs can just simply ware out. They can work fine till you bump them and cause unwanted resistances somewhere in the circuit to happen.  Imagen if you would a filament in a light bulb only breaking part way. The bulb in theory  would not be as bright, Because the of the damaged part slowing down the amount of electricity.

But thats just what happened to mine. Mine was 10 years old 6 years ago when that happend.

  4. If you used component cables, did you make sure you have the correct cables connected? Red with red, blue with blue, green with green?
