  1. yes the slavery issue was looming and growing with tension by leaps and bound remerber he inheirted some of those legal issues form the past presdenit basically he got the short end of the stick and it cost him his life

  2. Pretty much, some states had already seceded by the time he was inaugurated.

  3. Which Speech?

He gave an awful lot of them being a career politician and all.

By the time, he gave his inauguration speech, the Confederacy had already declared it's independence from the United States.

  4. The south succeeded from the United States because they felt they were unfairly taxed, they had to pay more tariffs from imported goods and a higher interest rates for bank loans. The northern states were also abolitionist states, which thought owning slaves was wrong. All these issue caused the civil war.

  5. Which speech? If you are thinking " A House Divided Speech" then you are right a Civil War was going to happen . That had been determined since 1850 when the South decided that the Compromise of 1850 was the last time they were going to Compromise. The Kansas issue-- Bleeding Kansas, Uncle Tom's Cabin, The New England States ignoring Federal law, Popular Sovereignty, The Dred Scott Case, and John Brown--Harper's Ferry. All of these pointed to the fact that the South was looking for an excuse to leave and Lincoln was all the excuse they needed. ANY REPUBLICAN ELECTED PRESIDENT WOULD HAVE FORCED THE SOUTH TO LEAVE.

         Hope that helps.
