What are the requirements? We are driving to Mexico. Also, when my child gets his passport does he need like a tourist visa or something? He's a USA citizen.

I'm a Mexican citizen (I don't know if it's relevant or not) lol.

  1. It depends on how long you are planning on remaining in Mexico. Also, do you plan on traveling beyond the "border states"? If so or if you'll be there more than six months, then your baby WILL need a tourist visa. You should also have a passport for him as well as a copy of his birth certificate, proving you are the mother of this child.

I know of someone who's son is still in Mexico while she had to return, because she could not prove that he is an American citizen (the father is Mexican - so the baby is there with him for the moment).

Lastly, your son qualifies for dual citizenship AUTOMATICALLY because you are a Mexican citizen. So, when you get there you may want to look into contacting the Mexican Embassy to get the paperwork processed.

  2. 1) Mexico does not allow dual citizenship.

    2) You child can be a Mexican National and have a Mexican passport. Go to the Mexican Embassy or consulate in the US and apply. With BOTH an American and Mexican passport you eliminate a lot of problems.

    3) If the father is not traveling with you make sure you have the paperwork to allow you to remove the child from the country. (either parent can remove the child but the other parent must agree or not have a custoy issue)
