5 Things Napoli Draw taught us about Liverpool
Another match has gone by and Liverpool fans continue to try and find excuses to be somehow optimistic by their teams’ performances. Another daft display in Naples has been claimed to be a positive showing by a mid-table mentality manager, Mr. Roy Hodgson.
It’s true that this was a second string Liverpool team playing against a team sitting 4th in the Italian league. However, a better performance was expected than what was actually witnessed. Bettor.com has come up with some conclusions from, well
quite a boring game of football:
1) Maxi Rodriguez and Christian Poulsen are somehow related:
It’s difficult to think of a footballer as anonymous and clueless as Christian Poulsen. Last night was another chance for former Danish Player of the Year (OMG – what was wrong with Danish football) to salvage some pride. Yet, he followed on from where he
had left.
There has to be a relation between him and Maxi Rodriguez. They both could be used perfectly to define the meaning of a ‘Nothing Footballer’, those who run around the pitch (or jog in Poulsen’s case) like headless chickens, short of ideas and confused with
the ball at the feat.
And the most amazing stat is that both have carved out a career with those talents of theirs, both around the 30 age mark, both have played at the world cup, and both are ‘PLAYING FOR LIVERPOOL’. Enough said.
2) David Ngog has the most unique skill and strength:
It would be unfair to criticise the youngster for the effort he puts in, every time he pulls on the red shirt. But the skill we are talking about is quite unique. Every time a ball is played into his feet to hold it up, his first touch takes it away from
him by at least a metre and half or so. Make this clear, it’s not a one off, it’s a skill that the boy possesses.
From a guy who measures 1.9m in height, one should expect much more physical presence than what the 21 year old has shown. Surprisingly, he has improved a lot as a footballer over the last year or so but I guess it’s about time that he take a break from
football and join a gym.
3) Ryan Babel should think seriously about becoming a rapper:
He looks like a rapper and thinks like a rapper, even when on a football pitch. His ideas and touches are shocking to say the least. It’s now a well known fact that Ryan Babel wants to become a rapper when he hangs up his boots, so why wait any longer? I
would be happy to hang them up for him, for good.
For all the talent that he has got, blistering pace and rapturous shot, he can easily be categorised under the bracket of “Big talents who failed to make it Big time”. Liverpool fans are still confused as to whether Babel will ever be able to make it? Some
suggest that he needs a run of games in the starting line-up while others believe that he has shown nothing when given a chance, just like last night.
4) Liverpool should play their reserves against Blackburn at the weekend:
Jonjo Shelvey, Jay Spearing and Martin Kelly were a few players last night who impressed to some extent. Spearing couldn’t have done any more when considering he was partnered by uncle Pouslen. Shelvey showed potential to be the next Steven Gerrard (although,
it’s still too early to say, but there is no harm in saying it anyway), with his intelligent runs and neat passing.
Kelly again took his opportunity with both hands and hardly put a foot wrong. On this showing, it would be a safer bet if Liverpool start with their reserves against the Blackburn at the weekend. Give star players more rest, may be until the next transfer
window (excluding Steven Gerrard only).
5) Joe Cole should thank Christian Poulsen:
On current form, Joe Cole has a decent chance of becoming the first bosman signing to be considered the “worst signing of the season”. However, he is a lucky guy that Roy managed to pay 5m pounds for Christian Poulsen.
There is tough competition between the two for the unwanted title, but Poulsen is more likely of the two at the moment and for that reason, Joe should be thanking Poulsen for consistently performing abysmally. Only time will tell as to who wins the race.
The above is writer's own independent opinion
