Question:

5 Weeks Pregnant with TERRIBLE EXCRUCIATING gas pains?

It started in the middle of the night about 5 days ago. I thought it was something I ate, I was up almost all night long...I NEVER thought that sleeping on the bathroom floor could feel so comfortable :)

Anyway I didn't have any problems the next day until the evening. Then the same the following evening. Well Sunday was completely different, it was all day long (on and off).

It carried on yesterday so I went to the Dr. They gave me some category B anti spasm pills and said (after having a listen to my tummy) that it was gas. Possibly IBS (which to my knowledge I have never had). They also said that this level of pain was not normal for most pregnancies.

You can imagine how I am feeling about pregnancy right now...if the next nine months are going to be about me writhing in agony on the floor...well lots of bad words!!

But seriously, the pains are killer, I feel like I am in Alien and some 'thing' is gong to split my tummy in half. It is comparable to kidney stone pain. The pills are not working and they have ruled out an ectopic pregnancy.

I know there are some of you who have been or are suffering with the same thing, is there anything, food wise, natural, chemical, anything that you can recommend that can help??

I should also add that I am a walker and also into the yoga, eat a non-junk food diet and lots of water (not a soda fan).

Thanks in advance for any help and light you may shed!!

  1. Rachel., thats just rude. She did say she went to the doctors! Not much they can do about gas!

Anyways, I live in Australia, and we have some herbal tablets here that help with gas. Maybe you should have a look to see if you can get any from where your from. They actually really work, and wont cause any harm to bubs as they are only herbal. Make sure you eat plenty of fruit also. Water should help a little, or you could always try prune juice. Lets just hope its a bit of a tummy bug and it will pass over shortly :)

  2. Get down on all fours and stick your butt in the air it help the gas escape. Walking and activity help even though it it hurts but it keeps things moving.

  3. how did they rule out an ectopic pregnancy??? have you had a scan to make sure?

i to was told by a nurse that it wasn't ectopic, so i had to deal with the pain i have ever felt for a week or so until i had a scan! and then they could not see it because it WAS ectopic!!! in the end i had to have my tube removed because it had split.

if you have not had a scan you should really get on at them to have one!

    good luck

  4. When I had gas a Nurse told me to lie flat on my LEFT side -- no pillows, head on outstretched arm and believe me, it all came out. May be you could think about giving the soya a rest -- beanz meanz fartz!

  5. im 8 weeks preg and dont worry i got the same prob gas aint the word my other half have comps which it makes it easier. It does hurt but i lie on the floor on my belly and it comes out. Just laugh about it it will come alot easier in pian coz u wont think bout it tooo much.

  6. well (touch wood) i havent suffered gas like that with my pregnancy but i had pain like that after i had my gall bladder out......i know the pain you are talking about...i was sitting on the toilet rocking backwards and forwards rubbing my stomach and crying in absolute agony and all i was told to do was take buscopan(anti spasm) and de-gas extra...but really i didnt find anything that helped......i'll keep my fingers crossed for you that this doesnt last the whole pregnancy and maybe you should go to the doctor and demand something better....surely there has to be something better to help...wind/gas pain can be the worst kind if its bad enough...and yours definatley sounds "bad enough"! i hope this passes soon..
