3 oz. of breast milk. He has only been awake maybe an hour today and only ate twice (a total of 3 oz.) since at least 11 today. Is it normal or should I really be freaking out as much as I am?

  1. I argee with what was said already. Wake your baby up to feed him. \i found changing my son's diaper woke him up enough to feed him, tickle the bottom of his feet or touch his face gently.

    Good luck!

  2. You need to wake him up and feed him. He needs more than 3 oz in a day. New babies do sleep a great deal but he needs to eat at least 3 oz every 3 hours. If you are really worried call your child's dr that is what they are there for. Are you breast feeding him or pumping and feeding from a bottle?  Wake him up every 3-4 hours to eat- change him or even every 2 hours- if that does not work and he still isn't eating- call your doctor ASAP

  3. the first week after my daughter was born  she didn't eat much at all and you couldn't wake her to eat she wouldn't do it. So try every couple hours if he isn't going for it don't stress too much. My doc said as long as they are going through 6 wet diapers in 24 hours you are ok. so keep offering and don't stress. call your doc if it will make you more comfortable. good luck :) and don't forget to get some rest too:)

  4. baby;s r very sleepy at first so u must wake him up to feed him. even if he eats just a lil wake him up every 2 to 3 hrs and get him to the breast even if its only for 10 min. good luck and dont freak just breath and take it slow

  5. You should call the doctor first thing tomorrow morning.  He can have absolutely nothing wrong with him, or have a bowel issue and he doesn't want to eat.  You do need to let the doctor know though.  They do usually wake up crying every 2-4 hours for milk.  Anything longer than 4 and there may be an issue.  BTW, they sleep for the first 3 months.  They ALL do this first 3 months.  They wake for eating, and got right back to bed.  It's part of their body growing in the first 3 months.

  6. He will be fine. Babys need a lot of sleep, he will eat when he is hungry. You can always try waking him up every few hours to see if he will feed but dont force him.
