  1. Don't buy a Paris Visite pass. It is NOT a good buy. It sells you something you don't need, to wit, access to zone three. Better to buy a "Mobilis" for any day that you will be traveling on public transport for than five times (which shouldn't happen all that often).

  2. You cannot buy subway passes online (or anything else online without a credit card for that matter) but don't worry, you will be able to buy your tickets at any métro or RER station when you arrive.

I agree that the Paris Visite pass is a tourist trap. You'd have to spend half of your day in the métro to make it worth it! If you are staying in Paris and don't plan to go to the suburbs, a bunch of 10 tickets at 11.10 € should be enough (tickets bought individually are 1.50 €). Paris is a very walkable city and you will only need to take the métro to cover long distances within Paris.

If you are planning a round trip outside Paris, just buy a return ticket for anything up to zone 4. For zones 5 and 6 a Mobilis Pass becomes cheaper.

If for some reason you need to travel a lot, bring a passport photo with you and get a Carte Orange hebdomadaire (weekly pass) which will give you unlimited travel for a week (necessarily Monday morning to Sunday night) so it could be worth it if you arrive on a Monday or Tuesday. It's 16.30 €/week for zones 1-2. Check the prices on the RATP website for other zones if you are staying in the suburb, but in any case, it's 6 to 10 euros cheaper than a Paris Visite Pass.

  3. no credit card no buy
