I had my son 5 days ago on the 21st of this month. Of course I am sore, but really nothing too bad...EXCEPT my tailbone. I can't sit without it THROBBING and even laying down is difficult because it hurts SO bad. I plan on talking to my doc about this tomorrow, but I was wondering if anyone had this happen after birth and how they helped the pain. This didn't happen with my daughter so I don't know why it hurts as bad as it does. Any relief suggestions?

  1. maybe sciatica?

i was due the same day as you (8/29/08) and i still have no baby. :(

  2. You may have broken a small piece of the tip off. My best friend had this happen to her, and she had to sit on a donut pillow for along time. It will get better, but for sure tell your doctor.

  3. Well, I have never given birth to a live child....I had  2 miscarriages! But I do have several girlfriends that have had kids. Most of them that had epidurals complain about back problems, the ones who had them natural never said a thing about having back problems. So i'm thinking it could have something to do with the epidural! I say talk to your doctor because everyone body is different! Good luck and I hope you feel better!

  4. Happened to my sister. You probably broke it. Ice and Ibuprophen!

  5. honestly, i doubt you actually broke your tailbone. it is more likely the birth may have bruised it, and it is normal to have a painful tailbone after having a baby. that was the thing that hurt the longest for me, to be honest. its a sensitive spot so any kind of pain on the tailbone is pretty bad.

did they give you anything for pain? you could try that. icing it might help. i wish i could say what would make it feel better, time is the only thing that helped with me.

i did have an epidural, but i don't think that is why my tailbone hurt.
