  1. influx of foreigners / foreign influence - white man brings consumerism / materialism / western lifestyle which triggers demands for alcohol, cigarettes, etc.  

    media too.  influence by foreign media - so we wanna imitate that lifestyle.  

    market economy stimulates growth and hence we hv to keep on growing or we stagnate.  

    ourchildren goes overseas for education - come back with diff ideas and more modern in outlook too

    some of us married to foreigners - who hv urban  lifestyle
