My 5 month old has been making a grunting noise like she's trying to p**p....but today she has had 2 poops as she is getting over a little bug...three days ago she had bad wind...like colic...and a temperature...also a snotty nose...it has cleared up now...todays double p**p was the last of it...it was a bit liquid but nothing bad and she is happy and eating etc....she is formula fed with no previous problems...when she grunts it is like shes trying to p**p her tummy muscles are straining as she does it....and sometimes she pulls her kneeds up but is still smiling away! What is this?

  1. She is the reincarnation of James Brown

  2. This question sure contains a lot of c**p.

  3. MY baby grunts when she is tired ^.^ If she's happy and smiling pooping shouldn't even concern you.My daughter poops 3 times a day and sometimes none so dont worry. What counts is she's happy and feeding...maybe she just find it amusing to grunt.

  4. Oh yes Brody used to grunt for like 15 minutes straight sometimes, I think they like how it sounds lol

  5. i understand it is very natural for babies to strain to p**p or toot. i have a 41/2 month old and i'm told if she's happy, eating, peeing and pooping then all is well.

  6. my daughter does the same thing...she likes to grunt...as long as she isn't doing it out of pain I think it is funny and I grunt back at her.

  7. I would take her to the doctor as soon as possible. This is a possible respiratory issue, not the need to p**p again.

I'm a labor and delivery nurse and we assess the baby when it is first born- and when babies are first born, grunting is a sign of respiratory distress...so since she's getting over a cold or something, it's possible she's still having a hard time breathing.

The pulling of the knees can also be a sign of trying to get in more air. Take her today!!
