  1. try the camaro set up from a couple of years back.  the small block pattern on the trans should be the same .. are you sure you want this in a truck..??  they are not great tranny's.. try doug nash too. aren't  the late models 5 speeds already?  except the 4x4's ?

  2. Boogie had it basically correct except GM did offer a 5 speed manual in a V8 / 4x4 1/2 ton configuration. I own a 2004 4X4 with a 4.8 and a 5 speed (+ short box and regular cab). I had to order it specifically that way when I bought it so it is somewhat rare - but all factoy parts should be available at the dealer (at least for the 4.8). Given the rarity of the combination (even with the 4.3 V6) you will likely not be able to find too much in the junkyard.

  3. Going to be a tough swap. I'm not aware that you could purchase a half-ton with the manual, so it is going to require some custom work to do the swap. You could use the GM NV4500 5spd out of an older model truck (same bolt pattern and is a hydraulic clutch unit), but you will need to mod your crossmember for tranny/t-case mounting. You will also need an adapter to mount the t-case to the tranny (haven't looked to see if one is available). If not, you will need to run a divorced unit (and extend your wiring harness) to keep your pushbutton case.

You may also be able to swap the 6spd manual out of a 3/4 or 1-ton truck of that era if you can find one. I do not know the model and I am not familiar with that tranny. It may be an easier swap that the NV4500, but cannot be sure. I only say that because it was a tranny that was used in that body style truck on the HD models.

Swaps are always easier if the truck could be optioned like that from the factory. Good luck with your swap.
