5 things Kenny Dalglish needs to do as Liverpool manager
Kenny Dalglish’s appointment as a caretaker boss until the end of the 2010-11 season was the best possible solution to the problems at Anfield.
If he has a successful time for the remainder of the season, there is no reason why he should not be given the job on full time basis. Kenny has all the attributes to be a success at Anfield again.
The word ‘Legend’ is often over used in sports but it seems to go perfectly well with Kenny Dalglish. He was Liverpool’s greatest-ever player hands down and one of the most successful managers as well. He is still a football fanatic and during his time out
of football management, he surely has not missed a thing. His knowledge of the modern game is as good as of anyone out there, so there is no doubting that.
Dalglish knows the club better than most others do and will do what is best for the club. His presence will be enough to motivate the players but he has six months to shake up these players and get the best out of them.
Bettor.com has come up with 5 things that Dalglish should do on his return as a manager of Liverpool FC. Here they are:
1) Unify the club
Liverpool players have looked disjointed since the start of the season and the relationship between the players, fans and the board is not the same anymore. Dalglish needs to bring everyone together and get all of them moving in the same direction. Not a
single Liverpool fan will oppose his appointment and it is about time that everyone backs Dalglish and walk behind him. Liverpool have a game in hand and a win will put them level on points with 8th place Newcastle United.
2) Be Positive
This is extremely important as the negativity that surrounds the club on and off the field has done them no favours. Roy Hodgson’s tactics were far too negative. With all due respect, such tactics might just work at a club like Fulham, but fans do not pay
their hard-earned money to see their team trying to stop the likes of Blackpool and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wolves-c40952 at home.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 fans have always witnessed good attacking football and were rightly unhappy at Hodgson’s persistence with tactics of trying to contain the opposition and hitting them on break. Dalglish made a change in formation straight away when he played Gerrard
behind Torres at Old Trafford in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Kenny would have been impressed by the performance of young http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Glen-Johnson-c15050 as an out and out winger.
3) Make Anfield a fortress once again
Liverpool have lost to Blackpool and Wolves at Anfield in this season. Apart from a couple of decent performances, Liverpool have failed to dominate teams even at home. Now that crowd will be behind Kenny, he needs to go and play attacking football so that
teams who come at Anfield should fear the home side and not believe that they can go away with some points.
4) Help in signing new players
This will not be easy as he has hardly discussed any transfer targets with Damien Comolli. Liverpool need reinforcements, there is no doubt about it, but the players who need to be signed must fit in with Dalglish’s playing style. If he can help Comolli
sign a few players who can aid his quest for a top-four finish, then he might just be able to keep the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pepe-Reina-c29672 at the club beyond summer.
5) Be an important player in the new structure
Although this is not one of the priorities but it is essential that Dalglish is part of the new management which will include a new Chief Executive. A British executive will give the club a less ‘Yankee’ look and more of a traditional appearance. The new
man will play his part in signing new players, so it is imperative that Dalglish keeps close contact with him and Comolli.
