Question:

5 week old kittens with fleas?

I've been reading most of the questions but, I have quite a different situation. I have an abandoned home next door to me, where I found the owners have left a Mother kitten with 4 five week old kittens. I ended up running into them and they were just going to leave them there with no food or water so they said it was fine if I took care of them. The little kittens looked clear for a couple of days, until yesterday I found one with fleas all over him.. I've heard bad and good things about dawn dish soap, and that you could sprinkle salt on the carpets to kill the fleas. I want to do something cost effective, natural and something safe for the kittens and mother.

  1. shampoo with fleas remover is all i no

    and it doesnt smell bad

  2. Dish soap It works I have 8 cats 1 kitten and 1 Pregnent cat and thats what we use cheap and works try dawn dish soap I perfer lavander and NO BLEACH.

  3. i did the dawn soap on my kitten and it didn't help get rid of the fleas, but it didn't hurt her at all, besides make her cranky.

i have heard that there are special products by advantage and revolution especially for younger kittens.

  4. johnsons baby shampoo...its not natrual, but its safe..i have done this so many times!! you have to do it a lil different though, after getting the cat wet, you need to load on the shampoo, let it sit for a few min, and then rinse it off. i had actually done this every day for 3 days or so, wait a few days and do it again.

as far as natural, tea tree oil is good for humans, but im not sure if its safe on cats.

here are a few things i found for cats:

Works for cats and dogs. Mix equal parts of white vinegar and water and put in a spray bottle. spray your pet and rub it into the fur. Then boil 3-4 orange peels in about 1 quart of water. Allow to cool, blend. Spray on your pet. The vinegar will repel the fleas (which you can use while you borax your carpet and pet bedding) then spray with the orange peels - which will kill anything left (it dissolves their exoskeleton). Dawn dish soap works, but only for about a week at a time. This will work if you keep it up every couple of days for about a week. I have no fleas in my home and my kittens were 8 weeks when I used this method.

    (i LOVE earth clinic!!!!)

  5. He will need his innoculations in the next couple of weeks. Why don't you take him now to the vet, they'll start his jabs and get rid of them fleas in one hit.

They love kittens them pesky things. Awww... take him to the Vet. He's due anyway.

Keep him on Kitten food till at least 12 weeks. It has all the vitamins and minerals he needs right now. The Vet will advise on this too. Don't give him milk. Water. Cats are Lactose intollerant.

  6. I have a 4-week old kitten that was covered with fleas.  I used Dawn dish detergent and most of the fleas died right away. She didn't like the bath very much, but she seemed to feel better quickly. I used a blow dryer on the lightest setting and held it away from her body to dry her. She loved it. I put her on my stomach and held her with my finger across her back so I could feel if the blow dryer was too hot for her. It killed almost all of the fleas.  I just had to pick them off with a comb. Good luck taking care of the sweet kittens. I can't believe that those people were just going to leave them.

  7. physically remove as many as possible then expose them to the sun.it works for me and try it on yours too.

  8. Capstar is safe for the kittens and the mother.

You can buy Capstar and Frontline Plus at drsfostersmith.com . The Capstar will kill all the fleas on your cat almost instantly and the frontline will prevent re-infestation. Use the Capstar right away. It will kill all fleas on your cat with in an hour. It is imperative that you do not skip this. Frontline (or advantage, revolution, promeris, etc.) is only effective if the flea bites the cat. Fleas have a 3 week lifespan and only feed for a few days of those three weeks, so you must use Capstar to kill all live fleas on your cat. After you Capstar add on the Frontline Plus and it will keep fleas off your cat for 30 days. Any eggs that hatch will be killed when they feed by the Frontline. Refrontline every 30 days. No vet visit required and totally safe.

Frontline contains fipronil, which spreads via the body oils killing fleas within 24 hours and ticks within 48 hours. Ticks are generally killed before they bite, decreasing the risk of tick-borne disease transmission. Approved for use on kittens 8 weeks and older.

Frontline Plus also contains (S)-methoprene, an Insect Growth Regulator, which prevents an insect from maturing or reproducing. Approved for use on kittens 8 weeks and older.

You can use FRONTLINE flea and tick control once a month and it's completely waterproof. Provide your cat with the best flea and tick protection, right from the start.

Capstar - Treats flea infestations on pets. Starts killing adult fleas on the pet within 30 minutes. One dose lasts 24 hours. Use when pets are likely to be exposed to fleas. Also may be used prior to surgery, boarding, or grooming. Active ingredient is Nitenpyram, which interferes with the normal nerve transmission of insects, effectively killing them. Not a preventive. For pets over four weeks of age. Package of 6.

  9. I have a NATURAL remedy for getting rid of fleas in your house.

Go to the Store and buy some 20 Mule Team BORAX.

Then sprinkle it all over. Carpets, couch, bedding, pillows, pet beds, car, even wood floors. (NOT ON YOUR PET!)

    THEN VACCUME IT UP.

What Boax does is coats the eggs ... The eggs hatch deformed or unable to reproduce.

You will have to do this 2 or 3x about a week apart in order to get all the egg cycles.

FOR YOUR PET. Use the flea killer that is on the market or use a flea comb (this is also a head lice comb) especially for kittens or puppys who are too young to have insecticide put on them.

Kill the fleas that you find on the comb with soap or alcohol
