My son whom is five takes some medications that make him have urinary accidents at night. We put him in Goodnights and he pees right through them still waking up wet... right through the Goodnight, along with his clothes and the bed. I am wondering if there is anything on the market that is similar but holds more pee than a Goodnight. Also tried the new UnderJams and they do not hold much more. He is a big boy about 70 pounds...

  1. My oldest was a heavy wetter too. He would go up to 4 times a night! All of them leaked on him too. He was also big for his age, which doctors say was part of the problem. They said the bladder didn't grow as fast as the rest of him. Do these fit him right? They seemed small on my son at that age, and he often complained about the tightness. Sometimes we would wake him up in the morning and he would already have them off, and full of pee, plus a new pee spot on the sheet. We soon just made sure his plastic sheet was up to par and waited it out. We don't believe in medications for this. Limiting fluids doesn't really do anything, as this is a condition where the body continues to make normal amounts if pee while sleeping, instead of reducing the amount. Maybe an adult diaper or something like that if he will go along with it. If the wetting isn't traumatizing him, then leave him alone about it. My son was never upset about wetting his bed, and was never made to be. I would get him up at night before I went to bed and it would lessen the amount of wetting he did, sometimes even make him stay dry. Sometimes he would go at night with me and other times he would already be wet when I went to bed. I have even seen him pee while I was walking him to the bathroom! He's totally asleep, even though his eyes are open, and has no idea what he is doing. He was also a kid that would sneak into our room at night and sleep on the floor next to the bed after an accident or bad dream. Then have another accident on my rug, or on my part of the comforter that was hanging on the floor. Fun fun fun. I never got mad though. Just couldn't, I knew he didn't do it on purpose.

What kind of meds make kids wet the bed? Will he be on these for a long time? If its short term meds then I would just cover the mattress and wait it out. If its long term, I would do the same, but that's just how we are. We are low medication kind of parents.

  2. My son is 7 (weighs 80 lbs.) and has the same problem peeing up to twice every night.  I just tried the under jams and they leak too.  I am so sick of washing sheets so I can sympathize with ya.  I only found one thing that helps just a little.  I stick those "male guard" pads in his good night and he doesn't even know they are in there, I keep them discreet because they look like female pads but for men.  You have to put them in just right but you'll get the hang of it.  I'll be watching your answers on this one for myself.

  3. well you can give him a adult diaper or you could just buy some girl maxi pads to help and put the goodnight over it. It helps i have the same problem with me im 12

  4. Limit fluids after dinner...but maybe try getting him up before you go to bed.  Try an extra pad in front...try 2 pairs...try aduly ones??  Sorry...only suggestions.

  5. This is easy to fix.  You just order some plastic pants that will fit him.  They work the best.  Really what is the cheapest and best is to just use the plastic panties with cloth diapers.  You do not have to pin the diapers on cause he is not walking around'  And this way he can still get up and pee.  If you use pins even if he wakes up he will just pee in the diaper if he cannot get it off.  So cloth diapers work best.  But you could also just get the plastic pants and put then over the pull up.

So you will have no problem with the plastic pants.  .

  6. Does you son sleep on his side? If he does. That would explain the leaking. Goodnites don't have anything to absorb liquid on the sides.  If he is wetting a lot and soaking the Goodnites to the point of leaking. You'll need to go with a diaper. There are "youth" diapers available but you'll probably need to get them from a Medical Supply company. Another thing you can do is take a toddlers diaper, cut the wings off it and cut a few slits in the outside cover. Then use this toddler diaper as a stuffer in the Goodnites.

  7. limit his intake of liquids, don't allow any soda drinking (soda=gas=bloating=pressure on the bladder)Set an alarm for about midnight, get up out of bed, go in and take him to the bathroom until this becomes a natural habit for him and he does it on his own.  Discuss with the doctor the problems with the medications.
