  1. Is he really really smart?

It's not uncommon for genius-level kids to react to physical discomfort in such a way.

See if this sounds familiar: http://www.ri.net/gifted_talented/charac...

My kid had horrible reactions to loud noises and acted like she was on the verge of death when she would just bump into something... but she was also reading at a fourth grade level before her fourth birthday, could do complex math problems in kindergarten, and can memorize about anything.

Because she is so smart, I was able to reasobn with her... I said, "whenever you hurt yourself, before you scream, take a deep breath and ask yourself 'does this really really hurt?'"  It seemed to work.

Good luck.  Having a really supersmart kid presents itself with a lot of unique challenges.

  2. Don't respond to his screams.

  3. My 5-year-old does this too.  My brothers all did this too when they were kids, and when my older brother broke his arm, my mom didn't believe him and same with my younger brother.

When my 5-year-old screams, I don't come in right away because most of the time, he's not even hurt or hardly hurt.  He's slowly started to not react in such a grandiose way.  He still does it sometimes, but he's really gotten better since I started to not react.

  4. I think he's just wanting attention. Next time, will yourself not to react and just let it take it's course. After a few times, you'll see it's most likely just his reaction to you.

  5. My 10 year old still screams like someone cut off her finger if she hurts herself.  That's just "her way" and I don't think it's easy to control on their part.

  6. He does it knowing you'll give him attention immediately. Next time, just raise an eyebrow and go on with what you're doing

  7. just comfort him

  8. i know this is a strange response, but is it possible that the little boy WANTS to see a wolf???????

  9. Read him the story about the boy who cried wolf and help him understand how you won't believe him when something is REALLY wrong if he makes such a big deal over the small things.
