5 year old and 1 year old sharing a play room? How?

We're moving into a house where my 5 year old and 1 year old will share a playroom. How do I keep the toddler out of the 5 year old's art supplies?

When the first one was older, I kept her happy in a play area made with one of those baby corrals, a fence thing you put up in your house. I was thinking about making an "art corral" and putting her art supplies and desk inside the baby fence, keeping the toddler out.

Will it keep the toddler out? How do you handle this situation, when the art supplies are not only choking hazzards but a mess waiting to happen for a toddler.

Thanks!!

  1. I have a four year old and a 1 yr old( both birthdays this week). I keep all the small parts and peices as well as games and art supplies on and in an old dresser. I let her use them when the baby is napping or in a different room.

    Good luck!

  2. Why not put them up high and have your 5 yr old ask for them? It's probably not a good idea to have them accessible to her without your supervision, anyway. The corral is an ok idea, but the toddler will learn to get in and climb over, not to mention that the 5 yr old may have problems getting in and out of it.

  3. sounds like you have a good solution already. go with your plan it should work  as long as the 5 year old can get in and out safely.

  4. either put the art supplies in the coral or put all the one year olds toys in there and let the one year old play in there .

  5. I have a 5 and 2 1/2 year old.  I keep all the stuff that baby can't get into in the closet.  This way there is a door between the hazzard and the baby.  My daughter gets them out and brings them to the table for use and puts them away when she is done.

  6. that sounds soo wronq dude...
