  1. Give him liquids every time he asks for them.  However I do believe they are able to eat soft foods such as yogurt, ice cream, frozen yogurt, jello and pudding and clear soups (chicken noodle etc).  If I were you I would call the doctor back because I've never heard of only liquids after adnoidectomy and tonsilectomy, and all three of my kids including myself have had them.

  2. Yes, he CAN have food for the three days! I had my adenoids and tonsils removed when I was 6 and I was able to eat food. Not HARD foods, but soft things like oatmeal, soup, mashed potatoes, etc. are fine. Stock up on ice cream and make shakes that are easy to drink and taste good (and because they're cold, they'll ease the pain) and you can put some protein powder in it if you want.

I STRONGLY suggest you speak with his doctor again and write these things down.

  3. I would recommend that you call his pediatrician to make sure you get accurate information. I hope your son has a speedy recovery! :)

  4. Please call the surgeon doing the surgery and find out what they recommend... he/she will know more then someone online.

My 6yo daughter had her tonsils and adnoids out in January and was able to eat the same day (and did, she ate soft food) so I don't know what to say if the doctor is not allowing your son to eat for three days.

  5. my sister had that done and we went out to eat right after she got out of the hospital and she was fine

  6. Just make sure you have plenty of soft foods around like puddings, yogurt, icecream, ice chips, drinks, popsicles, cream of wheat cereal is good, soups, etc.

I say go on how he is feeling. It is like when we are sick or after any surgery they do a liquid diet for a few days. They just don't want him to irritate his throat is all. He will be fine. I have gone a few days with nothing at all.

You are overthinking this too much. Just ask the doctor again. He tells you that because he doesn't want you giving him hard things that would damage his throat or cause any bleeding.
