50's HSS strat question?

Ok, I have this heirloom guitar that has the best sound I have ever heard in a guitar from this era. The only thing is, it was specially made without a pickguard! Should I have one put on or should I just leave as-is?

50's????? as a bonafide guitar nut and long time player I have never seen nor heard of such a guitar. sounds like an 80's model to me.  Are the controls rear routed? Imo, I'd leave it as is
