  1. Study with a map. Divide the map into regions (Northeast, South, West, Eastcoast, & Mid-West). It will seem easier instead of learning the entire map at once. That's a very simple way of doing it.

Study! Study! Study! Learn them, say the states and capitals over and over in your head. You can also try breaking the country into regions. Also, you can use words/letters to remind yourself which capital belongs to which state. Ex: Think of MJ as Mississippi. Then you think of Michael Jackson. M = Mississppi J = Jackson

Then quiz yourself by using the states puzzles.

this should really help with the studying!

  4. Break it into regions, then memorize what states are in each region. It will be less overwhelming then. Also try to think of mnemonic devices. For example, Montana looks like a face, think Hannah Montana

  5. There are jigsaw puzzles of the states. Putting them together will get you used to which state goes where. Many toystores have them.

You can also do them online. Here's a free one that isn't quite ideal, but it works, though you'll need to know the state abbreviations for it.

http://www.maps.com/games/jigsaw.html Let it load first, then just drag the states into place.

Here's an online map of the US without the state names. http://www.yourchildlearns.com/us_map.ht... Mousing over the state shows the name and capital. You can also use your Print Screen key to paste it into Paint and save it as a file, then print copies to work with.

I agree with the person who said that breaking it into regions helps. So you can break it into:

    New England

    Mid-Atlantic

    Southern States

    Midwestern States

    Heartland or Plains States

    West Coast

    Southwest

I don't know if these are all official regions, but you get the idea.
