Do you see anyone in boxing today possibly retiring with 50 wins and no defeats? If so, who?

  1. Actually I do, it depends on the period and level of competition that a fighter faces, if a fighter like George Foreman lived and fought during Marciano's time he would probably be 50-0 if not more, therefore if sometime in the near future a great fighter arises in a time where the competition is not that great it won't be hard to accumulate that kind of record, also if the fighter decides to have numerous title defenses like holmes did and add prestige to his name such record would be very much possible to achieve, look at it this way, if Calzaghe for instance chooses to fight five or six low class opponents he would reach such record (i doubt he wants to anyway) but it all comes down to the quality of opposition a fighter faces and how he picks his fights.

  2. Floyd Mayweather if he can get by Oscar De La Hoya on the rematch.

  3. No but Rocky Marciano retired with 49-0

  4. Honestly speaking, anyone who has ever gone undefeated, has always been dogged by questions of the quality of their opponents and/or ducking quality fighters. So being undefeated, to me, is overrated. Do an analysis yourself and you will invariably find that a top 20 list might have one or two fighters who were undefeated. I'm talking any weight class, any era or all-time.

I believe the true test of a legend is how they have come back from defeats to win a la Ali, Louis and countless other greats!

So 50-0 is pretty at first glance, but then the question becomes well who did he fight or who did he duck ?

  5. I don't see anyone today doing that at the elite level.  Like Woody said, Joe Calzaghe is the closest, but I doubt he'll reach that far, because I think that he'll only fight once or twice more before he hangs up the gloves.  And the only reason why he is undefeated today is because of the soft competition that he has faced throughout his career (except recently).  However, the strawweight champion Ricardo Lopez did retire in 2001 with an undefeated record of 51-0-1.  He fought the fighter that he drew with again, and beat him.

  6. It's not as hard as people think.

First, pick about 25 truck drivers, rookies, and 15-10 also rans.

Then, find ten past-prime names you can build your buzz around. Or go to Europe, where it often goes easier.

Then, dodge guys and mix ranked guys you can slide buy with about five real names who are having trouble. If you have any real close matches - NO REMATCHES. Just lie and move on.

Then, meet the rest after you've retired, repeating Step One.

Say, that sounds alot like Larry Holmes!

  7. Pretty  Boy Floyd if hed start fighting more. like 3 or 4 times a year.

    calzaghe if not

  8. I don't see anyone, especially a championship caliber fighter, today retiring with a 50-0 record (or better). Joe Calzaghe is the closest to that mark, right now, but I don't see him getting five more wins, unless he go after a bunch of "nobodies", just to simply say he made the mark. Also, Mayweather needs 11 more victories and I doubt he'll fight that many times and I don't think he'd care to reach 50 anyway.
