  1. As a Canadian I think that is false you don;t have to pay to enter provinces or territories.  however you may have to pay to get into Alaska I am not sure

  2. There is some truth to it.  You need to be able to prove sufficient funds to provide for yourself to get into any country.  Normally for going into Canada as an American you are either in a car or just getting off a flight and they just look at you and make a quick judgment that you look well off enough.  A wallet full of credit cards helps.  Customs is actually MORE likely to ask you the opposite question - if you are carrying over $10,000 that would need to be declared.  They usually check people from other poor countries more, but on a rare occasion check people that bring less with them or for longer stays.  So if you travel by bus, in an old beater, or you are hitchhiking you are more likely to be asked.

As a Canadian traveling frequently to the US we were asked to provide cash once (to enter the US).  It was years ago.  We were in college and headed down for the weekend.  One passenger was Filipino.  He was actually the richest of all of us, but he was singled out and we had to turn back so he could take money out of a bank Machine.

  3. Travelling the Alaska Highway can be expensive but the money you carry will only come into play at the U.S. border. They can require you to have a daily minimum amount of $100.00 for example.Sometimes they never even ask.

If you go have a great trip it is scenic!
