  1. I am 16 & i have tried that, i used to eat 400 calories a day for about a month. I was always hungry & felt dizzy but i was happy cos i lost about 10 pounds. But the MINUTE i started eating 1200 calories again i gained 2 stone from what i previous was, i am trying to lose that now by just being healthy. What i didn't know was that if you eat less than 1000 cals a day your body goes into starvation mode and stores fat so when you eat just a few calories more than you're used to you GAIN weight. Trust me the best, healthiest & most effective way to lose weight is to exercise 30 mins 4 days a week, and to eat a balanced healthy diet of 1200 calories a day. X

Ps. I just checked a BMI chart, you are a perfect weight!

  2. You can determine your answer pretty closely by plugging in the data you provided at:

    http://www.caloriesperhour.com

Keep in mind, you must burn 3500 calories to burn a single pound of fat. To lose 40 pounds, you would have to burn 140,000 calories. Your BMR, according to your data you provided, is 1480 calories (the amount of calories your body naturally burns every day).

By eating 500 calories per day (rounding off a bit), you'll have about a 1000 calorie deficit per day. That's 14,000 calories in all that you will burn in 2 weeks (with the proposed diet alone). A 14,000 calorie deficit will net you  a 4 pound loss (exactly).

That leaves about 126,000 calories left to burn to reach a 40 pound loss. Two hours of walking each day, if done at a moderate pace (i.e., 3mph) will burn an addition 400 calories/day (approximately). In two weeks (i.e., 14 days), the 2 hour daily walking regimen will net you a total calorie loss of 5600 calories. That's a little over 1.5 pound.

Let's add the 1.5 pound loss from 2 hours of daily walking (in two weeks) to the total lost via your proposed diet plan of 500 cals daily. That's 1.5 pounds + 4 pounds. For a grand total of 5.5 pounds.

The hour of running (once per week for 2 weeks total) will probably net you about 400 more calories lost. Swimming - giving a generous estimate, 8 times total (4 x for two weeks) will probably net you about 1600 more. So let's say 2000 calories for the swimming and running. That's about another 3/4 pound.

In all, if you use your proposed plan, you will probably lose 7 pounds (that's if you follow it EXACTLY).

  3. wow. you are 5'5 and you want to be under 100 pounds? thats slightly gross.

plus your body will probably go into starvation mode on 500 calories and day you will lose weight the first few days but then it may stop.

not to mention there is not way you will have the energy to do all that exercise running on 500 cals a day.

  4. Honestly, you would lose more if you ate 5 - 6 small meals throughout the day (so aim to graze and eat every 2.5 to 3 hours) for 1800 calories also eating good fats (olive oil, maybe some 'light' foods).  otherwise, your body will think you're starving it and will only store fat.  With all that exercise, you could probably lose 10 - 15 realistically.  You won't be doing yourself any favours or your body by only intaking 500 calories.  try to stick to water too throughout the day, no more than 10 glasses per day otherwise you're just flushing all your nutrients out of your system.

Seriously... if you want to lose weight, you have to fuel your body to teach it to use what you give it and to burn 'extra' .. typically your body needs about 2000 - 2200 calories.  you will lose weight by grazing throughout the day.

  5. so you want to be down to 97 pounds? i think that is way to low for a growing teenager. i think that is way to low for anyone! you are at a healthy weight now i think.your bmi is at   normal healthy %. at 97 lbs you would be underweight and prob not look as good as you do now.you are only 16 and still changing.please dont change, you are fine now.

  6. You are the ideal weight for your height

    Your BMI is 22.13

If your BMI is between 18.5 and 24.9 you're an ideal weight for your height. To maintain this, make sure you eat a healthy, well-balanced diet and keep active with regular exercise. This will lower your chances of developing heart disease, diabetes and other health problems.

Even if your weight is ideal, you need to keep an eye on your waist size. People who are 'apple-shaped' rather than 'pear-shaped' are more at risk from health problems.

    Top tip

Try to get at least 30 minutes of exercise every day. To improve your health further, stop smoking, cut down on salt and high-fat foods, and limit your alcohol intake.
