  1. breathe less, kick more, dont sprint in the beginning! pace yourself, kick off the wall strong-it gives you a boost! streamline and kick 4 butterfly kicks before going up to the surface.

  2. I think the best thing to do is to practice. The more you swim the easier it will get. When you practice you should do a lot of yards...and they should be sets of 1000. Then when you swim the 500 it will seem easy.

  3. lengthen your arms and shorten up your flip turns. Also kick fast, but small kicks. This helped me go down to a 6:30

  4. Use a comfortable breathing pattern, like every 3 strokes.

Also, streamline as far as you can without losing speed, and do 4-6 dolphin kicks off every wall.

Faster flipturns-- you can flip faster by tucking your chin into your chest.

Also, rotate your body as you take strokes and lengthen each stroke. This is will help you go faster & take less strokes across the pool. Reach more with your arms and rotate hips.

Finally, just work hard. Put in some good core & ab work and swim some aerobic sets on a set interval. good luck!

  5. get a timing down for your stroke

    breath less

    flip turns(important)

to practice for the 500, swim 1000 or mile swims (they sound hard but there not just relax)
