50th birthday ideas?!?

My dads 50th birthday is coming up. me & my mom are planning a party but I would like ideas!

Any advice is wanted.

I'm not sure what to put on the cake...the inviations...decorations?

I don't know whether to have it at home or go out??

any help would be nice. thanks! :)

for my dads 50th i planned a surprise party in a pub owned by a friend, got a cake with an old photo of him in the 70's and just invited everyone we could think of. friends, family, work colleagues, people he'd not seen for ages.

decorate simply, balloons and banners plus a couple of old embarrassing photos.

with the amount of old friends and catching up a full themed party might be a bit too much.

hi we just had our wedding an we held it at local bowling club but any sport organization will be ok then we got grinneers catering in who cooked fantastic roasts all vegies salads lasagne the lot and they start with basic setup prices they cook there on the spot an serve every1 and any food is left over is yours to take home plus u could have theme night were every1 get dressed up the yr u dad was born hope this helps plus gettin in cateres u mum can enjoy herself to

This is really funny if you don't think your dad would be offended by it.  Buy the cheap bouquets of flowers at Wal-Mart or where ever about a couple of weeks before the party and let them die.  After they are dead and brown and shriveled spray paint them black.  Its hilarious!!!

I hired a community hall, which is cheap, making vodka jellies for toasting drink(cheap)& I'm doing my own catering plus friends are bringing food also. Used some clip art (http://www.dorlingkindersley-uk.co.uk/st... on the computer & printed my own invitations,googled for news from year of birth & printed it for decoration. Used a funny poem site (http://www.funnypoets.com/) for more amusement & some old embarassing photo's printed on A4 paper for deco. Enjoy yourself.

Have it at home, make invations on line, this way you have enough money for lots of food which is usually the main attraction at parties.

Find out what his ultimate fave dinner would be and then make it for him with friends and family...

You could buy the cake to save time but make the dinner, it will be more "Special".

Have lots of friends over!
