52 tdci mondeo, keyfob needs programming

Question

recently bought a 52 plate tdci with 2 keys one a basic chipped key the other a 3 button keyfob, to later find out the innerds were completely missing, put a new chip bit on from a scrap key but it needs to be set for the car has this got to be done by computer or can it be done like te older mondeo's by turning ignition on off etc etc, thanks
