54 or 108 mbps wireless adapter for my PC?

Hi, I have an O2 wireless modem router, which is down stairs, on the ground floor which is 2 floors away, as my house is 3 stories high. If I get a 108mbps wireless adapter, would the signal be much stronger from the 3rd floor to the 1st floor, than a 54mbps adapter? Or does the speed of the adapter not affect the strength?

  1. since ur router only supports 54Mbps, u shud get this one. There is no point in getting a stronger one because it will receive the max ur router can give, which is 54Mbps.

    peace

  2. They'll both have the same signal strength. Speed doesn't affect strength.

But if the router can only handle speeds of 54mbps, and you've got the 108mbps one, you'll only get 54mpbs, so best to find out the speed the router can handle too.

  3. Yes but only if the router supports 108mbps. if it doesnt then it will be the same as a 54 adapter

  4. since the router is 54mbps there would be no point getting anything faster than a 54mbps adapter, this speed will not affect the range of the signal

  5. The speed is affected by the strength of the connection a lot of times. 108mbps is a rip off. It doesn't actually get 108mbps. Besides you would need a 108mbps router anyways. If you want better coverage but don't want to spend a lot get the  300Mbps Wireless Easy-N-Upgrader TEW-637AP. tHis 40.00 - 50.00 Acces point plugs into your existing router an gives you wireless  N speed and coverage. Preety cool huh
