55" Rear Projection TV Question? Phillips Magnavox?

I recently bought a used Magnavox 55" TV PTA836 (cheap). I would like to get a better picture from the set.

What causes the faint green strip that is on the left and right of the screen that protrudes in a bout 4-5 inches from top to bottom? Can I replace some bulbs or something? Thank you!

I've made all the adjustments I can.

Your unit needs an alignment/convergence adjustment, and it's not the one you can do from the menu. It has to be done by a qualified service technican that knows what they're doing. It could also be an indicator of a larger problem such as a tube out of geometry, a bad convergence board, or in the case of OLD tv's, gunk growing in the cooling fluid.
