it churns out 500 GPH which is aprx 10x filtration, would that be enough for 3 fancy goldies? when they get older and add more bio-laod, would i need a second one? because i read that full grown goldies need 20x filtration. any help here? well thanks in advanced!! =]

  1. Your fine as far as filters go. More is always better but it would be overkill. Goldfish do fine as long as the water is clear of harmfull substances. Good Luck

  2. well i hear goldfish have alot of waste, but so do piranhas because of leftover fish parts when tyhere done feeding and i own a 55g tank with around 350 gph and a nother 200gph filter and the water is clear, its said that 10x filtration is the best you can get usually anything beyond is overkill

but mind you that goldfish are also really hardy fish, if thewy can survive for 5 years in a 1 gallon unfiltered tank im pretty sure they wouldnt need 20x filtration, especially in a big tank to be happy

  3. well your tank will be understocked for fancys (you could have 4)

    so it should be fine

  4. That would be perfect. If you want when they get older you can get another filter and fill it with nothing but bio media so it will just be for bio filtration.

edit: just because they can live for 5 years in a bowl doesn't mean they should. A 5 year old goldfish is still very young when they can live 20+ years. Besides a 5 year old goldfish in a bowl will be severly stunted and die from organ failure. Just look at bruce the oranda he was only 2yrs old in this photo.

Can you picture him in a bowl?

  5. when it comes to goldfish believe it or not but the dirtier the tank is the healthier the goldfish are. But just don't let algae or ammonia build up in the tank. Goldfish love it dirty..lol.  It should say on the box how many Gallons it filters if not go to a pet store and the clerk will help u pick a good one for ur size tank.
