I used to have a copy of 587 The Great Train Robbery in my possession. One scene of this particular Family Movie, has a near-collision between the 587 and an incoming Diesel-hauled Train.

Was this scene rigged-up, especially for the Movie, or not ?

Please advise.

  1. The 587 was not damaged in the making of the movie scene.  The engine is now on display in repairable condition at the Indiana Transportation Museum.

  2. It's currently at the Indiana Transportation Museum undergoing restoration. I have no clue about the movie scene.http://www.itm.org/equipment/nkp_587.htm

  3. nope not harmed.  why would they/ its so rare.  and that would be dangerous too.  it is currently undergoing its second rebuild at the indiana trasportation museum which believe it or not is a half hour from my house.  they so far have removed the cab ultra sounded the boiler, replaced the grates, and replaced the firebox sheets.  it is now having it's staybolts replaced.  it should return to service sometiem in the near future.  when i visited not o long ago the only thing they had done was remove the flues and the dry pipe.  i got to sit and play in the cab.  cant now.  its going under a totally federally mandated rebuild.  and its not on display.  its been operating at the museum since the 80's.

  4. NKP 587 is currently undergoing restoration as of this June.  Check the url out below.
