  1. Plenty of ideas for motivation, etc. can be found at www.alternativeeducationbible.com which is a free site by teachers, for teachers.

  2. - paperdolls with the kids’ faces

    - disney

    - aquarium / sea life

    - mardi gras

    - candyland

    - theme based from a board game

    - theme based from a book

    - medieval times

    - chinese/dragons

    - wildlife (animals)

    - jungle or safari

    - rainforest or some kind of atrium (plants)

    - yearbook

    hope this helps!

  3. photos of scholars with their pets

  4. you should put like different forms of literature around the room [explaining them] and you can even have famous quotes from authors=]

  5. do you have certain books you will be using? put some quotes from the books up! put things like "reading is fun" and "english is fun" on the bulletin boards. pick some good projects from students last year and put them up.

  6. Are you looking for something unit-specific for a few weeks, or something you can use all year? I taught high school English for a while (granted, it's a bit different, but not really. In fact, keeping them interested was probably harder...but I digress...)

The most requested thing I had in my classroom was the "Wall o' Useless Knowledge." It was a large chunk of wall dedicated to obscure facts, mostly learned from books and literature, although some were numerical or practical in nature. Nearly every single one of my "cool and aloof" kids checked it every day for something new, and each week we voted on what fact would be permanently added to the wall.

I also had a "Word of the Week" display, in which I posted a challenging word a couple levels above the students and gave them, say, 1/2 a bonus point every time they used it appropriately in their writings or conversations. You could easily make the prizes more age-appropriate, and it is a good vocab builder.

Those were my main educational displays...if you're looking for artistic or specific types of themes, it may have been a waste of your time. But all my persnickety and too-cool-for-school high school students liked it, so maybe you could find a way to make it work for younger learners.

    Good luck!

  7. My theme this year is "We are Stars," and I have a Star of the Week bulletin board and "We are Starts" bulletin board which I show off student work.
