Question:

5x7 speakers in my Town Car?

I disconnected the 6x9 speakers in the back of my '89 Town Car and I had to disconnect a gray connector for the wires. I have a pioneer head unit and it's 45 watts per speaker. The stock 6x9's were good but I had a pair of "x*x" 5x7's that were 150 rms and 300 watts peak that I put in today. I used electrical tape to connect the speakers wires from the car to the speakers and they seemed to work fine. Then I mounted them onto the speakers holders that the 6x9's were on and they sound like 10 watt boombox speakers now. Does anything need to be done to the wires? Or do the speakers need to be broken in? Thanks.

  1. If you are putting 5x7s in a hole for 6x9s, then there is no baffle, so only the sound being produced from the tweeters would be audble.
