2.Describe the relationship between the depth and density of the layers of the Earth.

3.What makes the outer core different from the other layers?

4.Which of the Earth's layers is

a)the thinnest?

b)the densest?

5.a)Why is the Earth's outermost layer composed mostly of lighter elements?

b)Name two common elements found in the Earth's crust

6.The upper mantle has a tar-like consistency that allows it to flow.If the upper mantle did not have this characteristic, would there be any noticeable effects?

7.Scientists believe the temperature of the Earth's core to be between 3000 and 5000C. since these temperatures are well above the melting point for most metals, why do scientists think

the core is solid?

8.If you wanted to drill a hole to sample material directly from the mantle, would you be better to drill through the crust on land or in the ocean?Explain please

  1. 1.List the layers of the Earth in order of depth, from surface to deepest. Crust (lithosphere), Mantel (aesthenosphere), outer core, inner core.

2.Describe the relationship between the depth and density of the layers of the Earth. mantel is denser than the crust because of the more compaction and plastic rock made denser. Liquid rock is more dense than the mantel, the inner core is the densist because it has the same consistancy as the outer core but with emmense pressure from all directions.

3.What makes the outer core different from the other layers? The outer core is pure liquid

4.Which of the Earth's layers is

    a)the thinnest? crust

    b)the densest? innercore

5.a)Why is the Earth's outermost layer composed mostly of lighter elements? because it undergoes weathering and erosion

b)Name two common elements found in the Earth's crust basalt, and silica

6.The upper mantle has a tar-like consistency that allows it to flow.If the upper mantle did not have this characteristic, would there be any noticeable effects? the movement of the plates would be altered.

7.Scientists believe the temperature of the Earth's core to be between 3000 and 5000C. since these temperatures are well above the melting point for most metals, why do scientists think

the core is solid? the intence surrounding pressure which creats a plasma forcefield which makes the core solid.

8.If you wanted to drill a hole to sample material directly from the mantle, would you be better to drill through the crust on land or in the ocean?Explain please- Ocean because there is less crust to go through to get to the mantel. It may be denser but a lot less than continental crust.
