  1. Those soldiers are remembered every year on 11.11 with the rest of those who gave their lives in all wars and conflicts. That's why we always have 'Memorial Sunday' and the laying of wreaths at The Cenotaph and at other memorials across the country.

It's only on major anniversaries that individual battles are remembered. 50 years, 60, 75 etc.

  2. It wasn't a nice round number..

  3. It's not a nice round number, like '50' or '75'.

  4. I  take on board your point.

It probably doesnt have the same impact as VE day but recognition of D day and other memorable war time anniversaries have definitely been in decline over the last decade.

Tony Blair was the first to ask that VE and VJ day were remembered on the same day,so that he didnt have to take an extra morning off for something he deems trivial.During his term in office,he made great efforts to minimize the  rememberance of British military events as he believes they glorify war and offend the sensibilities of the left wing.

New Labour and the hiring of leftists in key governmental and media positions explains the decline and an increase of apologist attitudes.Even schoolchildren are being denied history lessons relating to British victories and the second world war is often never brought up in lessons because the holocaust would be inevitably brought up.Of course, according to muslims, the holocaust never happened and they are offended by the fact that actual film footage allows facts to get in the way of their hatred of the Jews.New Labour, wouldnt allow historical fact to stand in the way of muslim appeasement.

Fortunately, despite lack of coverage by the BBC,the British Legion and many other institutions do their best to make certain that we never forget the fallen.

I have never served in the forces ,yet I always attend Remembrance day parades,to demonstrate my thanks to those who made the ultimate sacrifice and those who put great effort into the parades.

I am saddened that many younger people dont have a clue about remeberance, because of the left biased education system.

    We Will Remember Them.

  5. They are concentrating on it being 90 years since the end of WW1 and Armistice Day - this has been mentioned various times this year most recently at the Chelsea Flower Show where the British Legion had a garden.

  6. Woah Limahl is right, after this length of time these anniversaries will only be commemorated every 5 or 10 years or so.  And we do have Remembrance Day every year to remember the fallen in every war or conflict.

But it's nice to know that some of us DO remember and think about it even when the media are mostly ignoring it.  Funnily enough, I've just bought the book Somme Mud and can't wait to get started on it.   My grandfather was gassed in the trenches in WWI - and survived - and this will give me some insight into what he went through.

Anyway, have a star, you deserve it.

  7. maybe it's an embarrassment to this government when people actually supported their forces, god bless 'em.

  8. it was ignored last year as well. The last time anyone took any notice it was The 60th anniversary. and in two years time at the 65th anniversary they will pay attention.

Plus, their sacrifice is not forgotten, that's what we have remembrance day for.

  9. It wasn't totally ignored by the media. I saw stuff about it. They are remembered there is a memorial musem and lots of other places.

  10. in todays climate of wet britain they probably didn't want to offend the germans.if they had aired anything there would have been an outcry from the pc brigade to apologise for winning the war!

  11. i agree entirely

  12. the media only care about either which celeb is shagging which other celeb or who got stabbed recently. as it doesn't fall into either of these categories i can see why it wasn't included.

  13. With respect, it was actually the 64th anniversary. On D Day 1944 I was just 3 weeks old.

  14. By now, most intelligent people know full well that the media is largely run by radical, left leaning people, so far left they are in danger of falling over.  Would to God they would fall over.  Their agenda is to downplay patriotism, love of country, pride in our nation.  They are JERKS.

  15. It was mentioned. A veteran who turned 112 was taken to France to see the battle fields.

  16. if we remembered every anniversary of every battle, well do i need say more............

  17. They are remembered every year.

And many people still remember them every day.
