6.8 Remington on a 16 inch AR-15 barrel?

What would be the point target range of 6.8x43 with a 16 inch barrel, would it be grater than a 5.56? because I've heard conflicting things like 6.8 was designed for CQB and does poorly at long ranges and things like since it's a larger cartridge it brings more effective range to the game.

Now, I want to build a very, very expensive rifle. 6.8, Ar-15 with gas piston, VLTOR monolithic rifle sized Upper, crane stock, battle grip and a whole c**p load of accesories. But I don't want to go into it before I've done my homework. Might turn out to be a bad investment.

Does anyone have experience with 6.8 x43?

  1. Here is a good article on the 6.8.   It shows differences in point of impact at 400 yards of .5 to 7.5 inches at 400 yards (carbine length barrels).   Of course the 6.8's bullet weighs about twice as much, so it will have more energy on target.
