1. What is the natural barrier to moving across the intermountain region from left to right?

2. What would your answer in question 1 mean for First Nations people who came across the land bridge from Siberia thousands of years ago?

3. Some First Nations people were farmers or they cultivated crops as part of their lifestyle. What region(s) would have the climatic characteristics to support this lifestyle? What region(s) would not have the necessary characteristics?

4. In general what compass directions are the West Coast, Intermountain, and Plateau regions? How were these regions formed?

5. In what general area does the Canadian Shield occupy in North America? What major geographical event was responsible for creating it?

6. What is the general direction of lakes and rivers on the Canadian Shield and what did this mean for Europeans who explored this area.

  1. Taking some wild shots here.  Damned American school system didn't think our neighbors were all that important.

    1. I'm assuming left to right means west to east.  The northern most part of the Rocky Mountains.

    2. They turned south at the base of the mountains.

    3. The Plateau - bread basket region

    4. West, ? - I'm thinking southwestish, South

    5. Greenland to the Adirondacks  -Hudson Bay to Great Lakes. Formed millions of years ago through accretion but today's shape created by ice age glaciation.

    6. Lakes are finger shaped and postioned relatively north/south. Explorers used the rivers as transportation from the Atlantic bays to the lakes making the interior portions of the region accessible.


  2. You really should do your own homework.

    And to adequately answer question 4, you must indicate where you're standing when looking at the compass. For example, looking from Ottawa, the directions are more-or-less westerly. But from Siberia, the direction is easterly. And from California, the direction is northerly.
